Platitude 04:11
are you being real in saying how you feel? well if you're not how comes you're not? are you still unkind to the child that built your mind? well if you are how comes you are? stepping stones don't ask no questions you skipped over all the best ones tell me pretty things and let your words have wings they'll take off and then break off they'll peel away in pairs and maybe crash mid-air but they're just words stepping stones don't give you answers what's the lifespan of a dancer? aware, awry, give it a second try you won't, how come you won't? without, within, costing you everything say hi, won't you say hi? i've been so rude - tell me a platitude sorry, man i'm sorry
2.
always a world away - and there i'll stay, to count the days and hours i've stolen - the one you want to think about every moment alone frame dance for you, my dear - i'll reappear, when no-one's near, with no heart to crack - i sanded it back to nothing you'll know when it hits you when it hits you that it fits you like a glove you'll go when it suits you and it suits you when it shoots you high enough so answer the question i'm tired of running on the power of suggestion, alone. so don't hold your breath for me, 'cause honestly i don't believe i'll stay for long - pass it along
3.
Sparrows 05:47
tell me your name and i'll do the same and we'll talk all day and drink all night living doubt, whether it's worth talking about dying need, to be understood and organised, a project you can analyse so we could trace our patterns round the centres like a couple figure skaters in the snow y'know, for once i had a look around and liked it better when i didn't know, anything, about you, at all hello, hello, hello, hello sit tight and see what you mean to me with a heart like the sea and a mind like the moon before observed, in the mind - unnerved bristling; like the artificial light that keeps the sparrows up at night, and they sing, but there's none to hear a note - concrete, cars, and creosote kiss me quick, y'know i'm really in a rush, and i don't wanna say too much, are you sick? from a primordial confusion, every infinite contusion made a start, y'know i tried to be a part of it but couldn't get in, the race i never meant to enter now i don't wanna win i wanna see the way you're seeing and i wanna be the things you're being hello, hello, hello, hello
4.
when you want it, i'll go get it - in no hurry, time's in flux for just a couple bucks acting out a great rendition keep a sunny disposish i'm dying to make a wish come here alone, now i've gotta take him home, the only way i know stay inside, no i won't come out tonight, cause i've got nowhere to go except for way down south - where i'd better watch my mouth
5.
Pop Song 03:23
arms folded, as he told it like it is i'll aim to kill time, but i think i'm gonna miss and once that's through, i'll do my best to figure you out but there's no need to shout if he can do it, so can you, it's not so hard now halfway through it, but for you it's still the start you'd make a work of art, just to set light to it and tell me it blew itself apart so i'm through with hoping, and staring at the floor i won't try anymore doo doo doo doo static, with real intention a comically timed correction course/coarsing through all of the usual haunts let's move in every direction train fare and human connection's all that could feasibly hold us back so leave politely, and quietly unfold you don't have to do that all on your own if i can help in any way, let me know anywhere, anytime, i don't care, i don't mind
6.
Half A Mind 06:21
you won't convince me now i'm going anyhow unless all the world could change to be neatly rearranged he takes advantage with a smirk he's a nasty piece of work just enough to get a kick enough to make you sick someone left instructions on my part: 'take yourself apart' inflated human being where there's nothing seen worth seeing whatever place he's sent whatever life he meant and oh, imaginary joe, you're always on the go yeah, you're such a fucking pro who needs everyone to know and it hardly shows that he's got half a mind to leave the world behind i've got nowhere to be it's all the same to me youre wrong youre wrong youre wrong youre wrong youre wrong youre wr ong youre wrong youre wrong

about

These songs, written around the warmer months of 2023, are pretty hard to talk about in any broad terms. They're all expressing something that we couldn't say in any other way than in music.

When we formed Everett, we knew that we needed to play this music with an attitude that welcomed honesty, because we heard it said in a way that was comfortable with its own fragility - but we didn't want to shrink that feeling by denying it its own sense of humour, joy, struggle, relief.

It was obvious from the start that playing together required giving all of those feelings from ourselves. The first time Sam and I played 'Half A Mind' together, we were so exhausted that we couldn't think, or say anything - we just hugged and sat down on the pavement outside - I still feel something like that after every gig.

As we came to recording, we tried a bunch of options but felt that the energy of playing together, live, in one room, was what brought out the raw and conflicted nature of the emotions that these songs convey. We wanted to treat them as living things unfolding in real time.

There's a lot of people I need to thank, and a lot of favours I owe, for supporting this release in some way or another - too many to list here - without all of them (you know who you are!) these songs probably wouldn't have been written. So with that in mind (and because we recorded it on Vincent's boat home), we chose this title for our first EP.
